I hear ppl in the south talk about "southern pride."

They reenact the Civil War (or parts of it). They fly confederate flags & they talk about "preserving southern pride" or "the south will rise again."

What does that mean??

My opinion is that more than a little bit of this..."nostalgia" is rooted in the idea of racial segregation & the acceptance of one man being able to OWN another. :sure:

There's nothing to be prideful about when it comes to that. If anything, there should be SHAME & a diligence to those living today to make sure that stuff isnt painted w/ a romantic brush.

What do you think?

Whenever I hear the term 'southern pride' I always think of the slaves and their families/descendants and how far they've come to gain steps into society [out of segregation and slavery]. I'd be prideful of that too.

I'm proud of them.
