Alphabet City

Ashley kept walking, seeing the people around her but not really seeing them, lost in the past. Her cell rang and she looked at the display. She sighed. He’d keep calling her and calling her…the best course of action was to cut him off quickly and tell him to piss off.

“John, I am not in the mood, so just-“

Steel said:
“Ashley, shut your gob and just listen. Zach’s been hurt. Persephone attacked him, Alycia too. We’re at the infirmary at Charope.”

Ashley stopped dead in the middle of the sidewalk. And then she remembered.

“I told you, I’m not a part of all that anymore-“

Steel said:
“He’s your teammate, Ashley. You get here.”

And then he hung up. That motherfucker hung up on her.

She put her phone away and started walking again.

What did she care if Zach was hurt? It’s not like they had a relationship. And after what was going down with that group? She didn’t need to go there and be treated like crap. She had better things to do. Sharon was probably there, wearing some godawful silver colored nurse outfit and lording all over everyone.

Well NOBODY looked as good in a nurse outfit as Ashley did. And she was only a couple blocks away. Why not go and stick it to old pigeon shit?

She entered the building and descended down into the infirmary part. She was surprised to see BISHOP standing there, with that blonde chick from the Six.

“Hey Bish, nice to see you aren’t dead.”

Delilah: “Who are you here to pick a fight with THIS time?”

Ashley smirked.

“No one, as long as you play nice, lite brite.”

She purposely inserted herself between Bishop and Delilah, placing her fingertips on his chest.

“So, how’s it hanging? [looking down] As long as ever I hope?”

She turned her head and looked at Delilah with a smile after this last part. Turning around to face her, Valkyrie put her arm conspiratorially around Bishop’s shoulders.

“Now don’t tell me this is why you haven’t been by in a while? Oh, she’s precious. Got a thing for the blondes, don’t you B?”

She looked Delilah up and down.

“Of course, some are just a cheap substitute. Been rockin’ out at the disco, have we?”

She smacked Bishop’s ass and turned away with a swivel of her hips.

“I’ll catch you later.”

She had taken a few steps forward, very satisfied with herself, when she saw Steel’s face. And with a few more steps, she saw Zach. The smile faded. He wasn’t moving, and he looked…bad.

“How is he?”

Steel gave her the low down on Zach’s condition. That he was stable but still had a lot of recuperating to do. She walked slowly to his bedside, and pulled up a chair next to the bed and sat. She took his hand, and noticed the scars running over it.

“Great Odin,” she hissed.

She looked down into his sleeping face, and brushed the hair off his forehead before resting her hand on his chest and leaning forward so that he could hear her.

“Zach. Zach, you need to open your eyes and look at me. Zach…”

She waited for his eyes to flutter open.

“Zach, you need to feed on me. Like we did at St. Patrick’s, remember? It'll help you heal.”

She leaned in so their faces were very close.

“Feed…”

She closed her eyes and pressed her lips against his in a kiss, pouring out all the emotions she was carrying – the hurt, betrayal, anger, sadness – all into him.

Scion said:
"Yeah, you know, a shower sounds REALLY great."

Alek’s eyebrow went up as his head swiveled towards Haleigh.

Scion said:
"No, not TOGETHER."

He resumed watching Persephone, as Haleigh left the room.

“Pity.”

Persephone said:
"Quickly before she gets away!"

The corners of his mouth turned upward in an amused smile. He caught her arm as she moved past him.

“Not jealous, are you, my little queen?”

Persephone said:
"We both know how much you love to comfort a damsel in distress."

He let her arm go, and stood up from the chair.

“Only when that damsel is you.”

He waved his hand in the air.

“But alas, you don’t need to be rescued, or comforted…”

He crossed the distance between them quickly, so that his body was a hair’s breadth from her, his face inches away.

“I don’t give a flying fuck about ‘Zach’ or the fact that he’s dead. And let’s face it, Haleigh’s probably better off without the attachment to him. But what I really want right now is”

He bent his head so that his breath was hot on her neck as he whispered.

“For you to tell me all about how you put his insides on the outside…”

He picked his head up and looked into her face.

“Next time, take me with you. Scion isn’t the only one who likes to watch.”

Delilah and Bishop moved to stand near the door to the hallway, they could see and hear Zach and Sharon screaming at each other. And they also witnessed Oracle’s calming influence on Sharon, which was surprising to say the least. Steel soon helped Zach back to his bed, and stood watch over him. Delilah and Bishop were talking quietly near the door, when in sashayed that annoying blonde from Zizi’s team, the one that Dominique, Alycia and Sharon could not STAND. And Delilah understood why.

“Well if it isn’t Skeletor.”

Valkyrie said:
“Hey Bish, nice to see you aren’t dead.”

Delilah turned to look at Maxim quizzically.

“When did you ever meet her?”

She turned back to face Valkyrie, and crossed her arms.

“Who are you here to pick a fight with THIS time?”

Valkyrie said:
“No one, as long as you play nice, lite brite.”

Ashley proceed to push her way BETWEEN Delilah and Bishop.

“Excuse YOU.”

And now she was pawing at Maxim.

Valkyrie said:
“So, how’s it hanging? [looking down] As long as ever I hope?”

Delilah’s mouth dropped open. She looked at Maxim, raising an eyebrow at him.

Valkyrie said:
“Now don’t tell me this is why you haven’t been by in a while? Oh, she’s precious. Got a thing for the blondes, don’t you B?

She looked from Valkyrie to Bishop and back again.

Valkyrie said:
“Of course, some are just a cheap substitute. Been rockin’ out at the disco, have we?”

Delilah’s eyes narrowed, and they began to glow. And THEN Valkyrie SLAPPED Maxim on the ass before turning away. Delilah LEAPT towards her, but Bishop caught her and pulled her back.

Valkyrie said:
“I’ll catch you later.”

Delilah shrugged out of Maxim’s grip and turned towards him. She crossed her arms again and raised both eyebrows.

“Really.”

Silver Swan said:
I WILL slaughter them. It's NO LESS than what they deserve!

“Alright Sharon! Go get ‘em.”

Delilah gave him a look.

“What? Don’t you want me to be encouraging to your friends?”

Oracle seemed to (sadly) calm Sharon down and the two of them went down the hall, while Steel & Zach came back into the room. He and Delilah stood a little bit away from Zach’s room.

And then, he was pretty sure God hated him.

Because in through the Infirmary door walked Ashley.

Fuuuuuuucccckkkkk.

He did not need this right now, he so did not need this.

Valkyrie said:
“Hey Bish, nice to see you aren’t dead.”

He gave her a small unconvincing smile.

Delilah said:
“When did you ever meet her?”

“Uh…”

He stammered.

And then Ashley was touching him. He took her hands and pulled them off of his chest.

Valkyrie said:
“So, how’s it hanging? [looking down] As long as ever I hope?”

He closed his eyes.

“The fuck, Ash,” he said under his breath.

Delilah was staring at him in shock. He put a finger in the air. (And not the one he wanted to give Ashley.)

“Now, Delilah…”

Ashley slipped an arm around him like they were old friends. Well, they were, but still. The fuck?

Valkyrie said:
“Now don’t tell me this is why you haven’t been by in a while? Oh, she’s precious. Got a thing for the blondes, don’t you B?

He wanted to die. Maybe they could get Haleigh back there to kill him. Or Ava. He wasn’t picky.

Valkyrie said:
“Of course, some are just a cheap substitute. Been rockin’ out at the disco, have we?”

And he knew THAT look. He threw his arms around Delilah just as she made a go for Ashley. Delilah pushed him off and gave him a hard look.

Delilah said:
“Really.”

He held up his hands in a placating gesture.

“I haven’t seen her since we had the dream, I swear.”

He fumbled for something else to say.

“And…men have needs…and-“

His eyes went to the ceiling, thinking. Aha, he had it. He pointed at her.

“And you were with that teenager all that time.”

She stomped her foot.

Delilah: “ANDREW IS NOT A TEENAGER!”

She seemed to calm down then, but he wasn’t sure if that was better or worse.

Delilah: “Fine.”

“Delilah…”

Delilah turned and walked over closer to Steel. He looked like he was about to say something, but Bishop gave him a death look and he reconsidered it.

“We weren’t together, for Chrissake.”

Delilah: “Fine. We weren’t together. Just like we aren’t together now.”

He pursed his lips, his eyes moving to the ceiling in annoyance.

“JESUS-“

“FOR FUCK-“

“I’M NOT A MONK!”

She turned around with narrow eyes.

Delilah: “Well, THAT’s become OBVIOUS!”

He groaned.

“Come on, Delilah, have a heart. It was just sex.”

Steel was furiously shaking his head “no” at him. Bishop gave him a perturbed look.

Delilah: “JUST sex? Is that supposed to make me feel better that you were riding the hobby horse with Asperger’s Barbie?”

He had nothing.

Delilah: “She ATTACKED KAREN. I mean, WHO ATTACKS KAREN?! What could you possibly SEE in her?!”

Steel [under his breath]: “Do NOT answer that mate.”

“Quick I think Silver Swan is killing someone down the hall…”

And I hope it’s me.

He slumped down into a chair.

“Aw come on Lilah, I was just trying to get over you. But it didn’t work.”

He looked up at her.

Bishop said:
“Aw come on Lilah, I was just trying to get over you. But it didn’t work.”

Asshole. Asshole. Dickhead. Shit for brains. Fucktard.

She hated him so much right now. Because somehow, no matter what he did, he made it impossible for her to hate him.

She looked down on him silently for a few long moments.

“You know…”

She narrowed her eyes.

“I have perfect hearing. I can tell if you’re lying.”

She sighed.

“Okay. I guess you’re right. I was with Andrew, you were with…Nanook of the North over there. And it’s not like we’re together.”

She started to turn away, but then turned back.

“But just so you know, your girlfriend is in there making out with Zach.”

She smirked down at him.

“And you had better spend some time at the gym, because even half dead his ass looks better than your’s right now.”

She turned and went and stood next to John, who held out his fist to her for a pound. To which she reciprocated with a smile.

Oh SHIT Delilah, tell his ass!
Feeling him catch her arm as she passed, she stopped and looking down at the amused smile on his face.

Alek: “
Not jealous, are you, my little queen?”

"Hardly."

She responded evenly as he let go of her arm just as she was pulling it away from his grasp.

Alek: “Only when that damsel is you. But alas, you don’t need to be rescued, or comforted…”

"Or fooled with, so watch you tongue."

She warned. He was getting mightly confident with his current situation of playing both sides when it came to herself and Haleigh. But her warning fell on deaf ears as Alek crossed the gap between them and came a whispers breath from her. Persephone didn't waver as he move his mouth near her neck, the heat from his breath dancing along her skin.

"WHAT do you want."

She questioned sharply, loosing patience.

Alek: “I don’t give a flying fuck about ‘Zach’ or the fact that he’s dead. And let’s face it, Haleigh’s probably better off without the attachment to him. But what I really want right now is...For you to tell me all about how you put his insides on the outside…”

Persephone kept her gaze even as she stared into his eyes, seeing the glimmer of sadism as he asked about Zach. He knew she got off on the kill--especially when SHE was the one who did it. But her face remained stoic at his antagonism, as he moved back to her neck while he spoke.

Alek: "Next time, take me with you. Scion isn’t the only one who likes to watch.”

Placing her hands in his chest, Persephone smiled.

"I'll make sure to pencil it in."

Her smile faded as she stepped away, walking into her bathroom.

"Close the door on your way out."

Her bathroom door slammed shut.

Oh burn!
Charope, LLC -- The Infirmary

Zach was at Giovanni's, with Ava. She was in town visiting, and she looked absolutely stunning in the spring sunset.

They split an appetizer sampler. He regaled her with the details of his sort-of-botched proposal to Haleigh. How his heart had been racing as he brought the puppy in. How he'd been sure she would shoot him down. How Haleigh had beaten him to the punch.

Ava laughed and congratulated/consoled him. She caught him up on all the recent developments in HER life. The levity of her mood was a nice echo for his own euphoria.

Storm clouds built overhead so fast, he could actually see the columns billowing upwards. The sky grew dark, blocking out the last traces of sundown, and thunder shook his bones as lightning tore the sky all around them. The bottom seemed to drop out of the could base and rain poured down. Luckily they had the table umbrella open already. But something was wrong..... the rain was acid, eating through the umbrella quickly. Zach grabbed Ava's hand and pulled her close, trying to cover her with his suit jacket as he rushed her towards the doors to get back inside.

Before he could get her to safety, lightning crashed down in front of him and reached out, striking him in the chest. It seemed to seize hold of him and burned him to his core. Ava stumbled and fell, and the acid rain pelted her. He shouted for her to go, to keep moving, even though he couldn't. The lightning released him, and disappeared. When his eyes readjusted, Ava was gone. In front of him was Ashley.

Ashley: Zach. Zach, you need to open your eyes and look at me. Zach…

He opened his eyes. His was back in the Infirmary. Valkyrie leaned over him, her hand on his chest. He reached for it, at looked at her groggily. Was he still dreaming?

"Ash?"

Ashley: Zach, you need to feed on me.

"Uh, what?"

Ashley: Like we did at St. Patrick’s, remember? It'll help you heal.

"Heal?"

Ashley: Feed…

She kissed him, and he received with it a torrent of emotions. He seemed to understand then, what she was trying to do. There was so much pain and anger lately, it seemed they all felt it. He reach up to touch her face, and then broke away. He sat up a bit, then moved onto his side on the bed, trying not to wince.

"Ash, I.... [he clears his throat] I need something else, like... like the other night."

He smiled gently for a moment.

"We don't have to do anything, I mean, just the emotion, if you don't mind recalling it. I would appreciate it."

No way!
The Infirmary- Alycia's suite

“Oh, Sharon.”

Zizi looked up at her with sad eyes.

Zizi clutched at Sharon’s hand as she turned to face her. Her voice was soft, soothing. There was no criticism in it, only concern.

“Listen to me, Sharon. I want to help you stop them. But you’ve just been in a hard fight with Persephone. Alycia and Zach were injured, and I know how hard that is for you to see. Rest yourself. Gain back your full strength – allow Isis to regain her strength as well. Take Steel, Matrix. Take those from the Six that you trust. Go at them at your best.”

She paused, trying to see in Sharon’s eyes if she was getting through to her.

“Don’t forget that it’s not just Black Widow and Persephone that you would be facing. Malice will be there too, and she will not give up her prizes easily. Zach, bless him, may not be seeing the situation clearly but he was right about that – if you go there and Malice takes YOU out, who will protect the innocent of this city? Like those children?”

[ She didn't pull away from Zizi this time. She didn't take off in a furious rush of protest and anger. Instead, she let Zizi's words settle her. Steel, Zizi...they were right.]

[ Sharon looked down at Zizi, the rage still glowed in her heart and her soul, but it was no longer WHITE HOT. Haleigh and Persephone would live...for now. But they'd be FOOLS if they didn't believe she'd be coming for them SOON, and no matter WHEN...they better be ready, because when she finally did come for them, that day would be as good as ANY for those two to DIE.]

I will stay here...with Alycia.

[ She said quietly as she looked away for a moment.]

[Alycia....they'd been through so much together, long before they were reborn as Amazons. From ADA and Senator, to staunch allies of the Six...MASTER MOLD came crashing down on them, but not even that...not even death...not even the Arklay Mansion OR Bishop could keep them down forever, and they came back, as sister amazons, ready to begin new chapters in their lives. But so far, NEITHER of them was living the life they had expected. They oldest hurts remained, and NEW ones were added.]

[ Zachary, he once meant so much to her, and truthfully, he still did. WHY WOULDN'T HE LISTEN!? It HURT her to her heart that he would not. Even NOW, having been SAVED from death by Isis, he STILL held out some outrageous notion of...HOPE or BELIEF regarding Haleigh and Persephone!? Sharon couldn't STAND it! She couldn't STAND seeing someone she cared about be such a FOOL and all her efforts to save him were for NOTHING.]

[ And so, as Zizi left her to keep watch over Alycia, Sharon slowly walked over to a nearby chair...and COLLAPSED into it, SHUDDERING with grief as she finally let herself deescalate.]

[ She grieved over the HORRIBLE reality that Domino saw so clearly in her. She wondered who was truly right. SIMON PRATT, OR DOMINO? She wondered why everytime she seemed to have a clear view of herself and her purpose, something always seemed to upend that? ]

[ She could hear Ashley Oldenburg's mouth, but she didn't care about that woman anymore. There were other people who deserved her care, her emotional energy, but was it enough? ]

[ She grieved for the lunacy of all of this, for the disgusting betrayal and dishonor that Black Widow and Persephone visited upon them all, and for all the times she'd stood by them, believing in them. She grieved for Zachary Armani. YES he was alive, and she was TRULY grateful that he got another chance, but she believed he was LOST in his....belief in Haleigh & Persephone...which nearly got him KILLED! ]

[ She grieved for what was truly the loss of a close, personal relationship, because if he chose to remain loyal to these monsters, she could not abide him or his presence. She'd close the door on Zach, and she would do what must be done, and continue to be reviled by those who claimed to be her teammates, but at least they would be SAFE from those monsters at the Hellfire Club. ]

[ She didn't ask to come back as the Silver Swan. She wondered who among them knew that. She had always hoped that when she died, she'd be reunited with Robert and Kyle in the next life. She didn't know that THIS would be her life after life. Was THIS hell?! ]

[ In that dark room, as Alycia lay, in a deep sleep, but safe in the promise of another chance at life- thanks to Isis, Sharon Kelly sits in a chair nearby, and just weeps softly.]

Charope – Infirmary

She kissed him, but then he broke away quickly. Anger, then hurt, flashed across her face. What, even her emotions weren’t good enough for him?

Orion said:
"Ash, I.... [he clears his throat] I need something else, like... like the other night."

That surprised her. She sat back and stared at him.

Orion said:
We don't have to do anything, I mean, just the emotion, if you don't mind recalling it. I would appreciate it."

She thought about it for a minute, then stood up and closed the door. She turned the blinds closed.

Turning, she asked, “You’re healed, right? I mean, nothing’s broken?”

She walked slowly towards the bed, slipping off her jacket and letting it fall to the floor and pulling the ribbon from her hair so it fell about her bare shoulders.

She climbed onto the side of the bed, stretching out next to Zach and propping herself up on one elbow. She ran a hand down his cheek, looking deep into his eyes. She remembered what it had felt like, to be loved, to be wanted. She kissed his forehead gently, then each cheek, then his chin.

“How’s this?”

She leaned down then and kissed his lips, not out of duty this time, but out of need, desire, longing. Her hand trailed from his neck to his shoulder and down his arm as she held the kiss, pressing her body against his.

Love this post. Shows such a a different side to Ashley.
:: she turned to Xavier now. ::

"And YOU...you need to make an effort to BE one of us, boo. You're well travelled, you're fast as hell, you can get places quickly, you..entertained Alison on Aerie..but that's all I know. I know...I just said that com links worth both ways..but if there's anything I learned from my own past, it's that in this world we live in? A world that you are a part of now...you gotta show up and show out, and MAKE yourself known...otherwise you're just gonna be a blur. Nonconsequential. You move so fast, Xavier...sometimes faster than allows you to see everything, but it's time for you to slow down. Put down roots...make friends. Make a life for yourself. I haven't reached out..because I wasn't so sure that you would be open to it...no offense, but most of the people I know who can tolerate Alison Marble are jackasses themselves..so it threw me off. I apologize for that...but you need to make a promise to me..to Andrew..to be present. Share your life. You've proven in The Purifiers caper AND in The Frost Caper that you could do incredible things...but we live in a WORLD of incredible creatures. I want to know who YOU are Xavier..what you worry about..how you feel..I want to know a human being. Not just an incurable charmer that says what it is he thinks I want to hear. I like you Xavier...the others like you...but you gotta give a little more..."

:: she grabbed his hand. ::

"And I do too. The second this mess is over, you come to my gallery and we will talk Art History until the cows come home. I promise."

:: shaking her head. ::

She said a mouthful, but it was necessary. And it made him think a bit as she continued.

"Sorry for almost proving Dominique's point that she thinks I think I always know best and have to teach. I just wanted to take a moment...as a teammate and friend, to tell you that I appreciate both of you, and whereas time may have been a luxury before, it isn't one now. I don't want to waste my time anymore on people if it's not going to be worth it. So let's make it worth it."

:: cocking an eyebrow ::

"I don't want anybody to go through what I went through. So I won't allow it to happen. But how about we agree...right now. In this room, that we trust each other. We got each other's back...despite the stupid shit we might say or even think? Trust me, the song may say one thing but THIS ho is loyal."

:: She laughed again and immediately her mind went to Zach, Alycia and Sharon. ::

"Ugh...I feel bad even for laughing. I wish SOMEBODY was in contact right now. I hate not knowing what's going on."

Xavier squeezed her hand as they all thought about their teammates.

They will be FINE Vivica. Isis is one of the most accomplished magic users on the planet. The power she emanates speaks to my soul...I can sense magic, and she is nearly off the charts.

Sure enough, Steel messages them that they BOTH will be fine, that they are resting. Xavier smiles widely at the news. Besides, he had an amazon to still charm right?

“Oh saints be praised.”

The amount of relief he felt surprised him – maybe there was something to this family Vivica was talking about.

But then his face fell, as he looked back at his companions.

“But how long can we go before we can’t bring somebody back?”

Probably not very many lives left in this cat. So we better learn to hang together before we hang separately.

Xavier stood up, stretching his legs and thinking about what Recall said. he turned and spoke to her and Andrew.

You are right, Viv. I CAN be aloof. I guess...I just have been in a scene most of my life where people use others for their own gain, with no regards for others. I mean, honestly, I am a THIEF. I steal for good REASONS, to help people who cannot help themselves, but I have to STEAL to do it. I can take anything FROM anywhere, you name it and I can do the job. But sometimes that leaves you watching your surroundings and wondering who you can trust and where are the exits more than actually living your life. And so I thank you for reaching out, and you too Andrew. I owe you some solid proper English beer. Both of you.

Maybe this would be more than a month in Aerie after all. Alison was a precog and, so far, she was on point. Assuming the crazy faux-sisters did not kill them all one at a time...

Miss D was finally sleep, comfortable. I placed her in a recovery bed and tucked her in. She didn't need me right now anymore, she needed as much of this as she could get.

I stepped out of the room and looked at who else was around. I saw Zizi, Steel and Delilah standing around, waiting just like me. Bishop was separate from them, and was looking like he had said some shit he shouldnta said. I nodded to everyone and kept walking down the hall a bit before producing my communicator and texting Blaze.

Hey Red...everyone will make it. And I know the timing on this is crazy, but when can I talk to you again...just you?

How am I even missing this woman? Or thinking about HER at a time like THIS? What is my damn problem?

Charope, LLC -- The Infirmary

He sighed as she got up. He thought she was going to call him a pervert on the way out the door.

It's not like that....

He got ready to protest, but she shut the door, and closed the blinds.

Ashley: You’re healed, right?

His heart skipped a beat.

"Ah, mostly?"

He said. He knew he looked pretty bad, pale and sick. Other than the scars, he didn't feel hurt, just weak and sore.

Ashley: I mean, nothing’s broken?

A smile played on his lips as she shed her jacket and let her hair down.

"Nothing's broken."

He confirmed, as she crawled into bed with him. He shifted the pillows so she'd have one. He got lost in her blue eyes again, and in the swell of affection. With every kiss, he looked less grave, had more color, and more energy it seemed.

Ashley: How's this?

He put his arm around her as their lips met again.

"Yes, Ash,"

He said when he could.

"Perfect."

He answered, working his hand up inside the back of her shirt as he deepened the kiss, soaking up her feelings, reviving quickly now.

Charope - The Infirmary

His hand was like electricity on her bare skin. She raised herself up off the bed, but only stopped kissing him long enough to peel her tank off over her head and toss it to the floor. Together like this, everything felt heightened. She didn’t know if that was because of his power or something else, but she didn’t want it to stop.

She pulled at his hospital gown, getting his arms out from the holes – trying to be gentle but not entirely succeeding. And always there was his mouth, and her lips, and their hands. She reached down and unfastened her jeans, shimmying out of them before sitting up, finally coming up for air. She was breathing heavily, her lips feeling bruised and worn. She straddled him, and looked down in his face with need, wetting her lips. She saw the ugly red scars on his chest. Tracing them lightly with her fingers using a feather’s touch, she bent down and kissed them in several places before leaning up towards his ear to whisper,

“Chicks dig scars.”

Laughing she kissed his mouth again, and another wave of emotion broke over her. She whispered his name as they became one, and at that moment, everything she was feeling was real.

The Hospital

"Rose! No they don't! Don't you know that I can see them? I can experience them! They're SCARED. They're scared of what's happening to you. They aren't requesting the Black Widow's head...though I'm not opposed to offering it up to them."

<< Rose looked at Rae in astonishment. What was she saying!? >>

But I...I hear them.

<< FLASH!>>

Seer said:
<< The night, the MOMENT of the bus accident.>>

<< Rose and Orion are blown clear and the horrible sound of glass and metal shattering, against the agonizing sound of children's screams and painful cries.>>

I felt the precious lights of each of their souls flicker...and fade....each one of them Rae...

<< She says as she looks at the psychic and Danny with sadness and exhaustion written on her face.>>

They were scared, even as we were trying to evacuate them. For some...that fear was the LAST emotion they experienced in this life on earth. It was...only surpassed by the sadness many felt for so long, knowing that they were unwanted by anyone, some who longed for their parents to come back to them, not understanding that could never happen.

I did....

<< tears began to fall again as she held Rae's hands, and squeezed them for a few moments>>

...I did all I could for them, and I don't regret that.

I was SUPPOSED to be here for them. I KNOW how they felt!

But people like Black Widow....she PERSONIFIED the apathy, the uncaring nature of most people in this urban jungle. She DEVALUED their lives, and to her...letting them die was...acceptable because SHE decided they had nothing of value to contribute to society.

How can you say, with CERTAINTY that they (the souls of those fallen children) DON'T cry out for vengeance?!

<< Rose didn't question Rae's power, but they both knew that some things lay in a "gray area"...for those who perceived or traveled through the astral plane, this took on an entirely DIFFERENT meaning. >>

"Dennis Nedry ain't a man of his word, Rose. I can see it. He dances in the flames of hell like he is a moth just LOOKIN' for the light. He's in their pocket I just know it! They're just tryin' to scare you. Please don't LET THEM. Rose. I love you. And the Lord will STRIKE ME DEAD before I let any of these bastards GET TO YOU..."

:: She gripped the woman's hand. ::

"I KNOW what you can do. But it's NOT who you are. You don't think that with the power I got, I don't think about exacting my own justice..taking the mighty ARM of the LORD and just wielding it with the force of a bible belt Senator? But it's not that easy. Being a good girl ain't that easy..but YOU ARE ONE. You're a good girl, Rose. I won't let you do this, unless I KNOW...it's the thing that's most going to help you. Come with me. Please?"

<< Rae had been the closest thing to a MOTHER that Rose had since she lost her second set of parents. She appealed to that part of Rose that longed to "LET GO" and just "BE" sometimes. She made Rose feel HUMAN, and not "a world apart" as the Unloved, the Hellfire Club, and others had tried to do. Rae saw her as a whole human being, one who's childhood was worse than the stuff of nightmares, one who had to adapt and RAPIDLY grow in ways that few on the Birds of Prey could fathom.>>

Okay...

<< She nodded.>>

<< She trusted Rae, just like she trusted Sharon and Alycia. But Rae was consistent. Sharon and Alycia, through no fault of their own, had changed. They went from being a base-line human and a human with an anamolous genetic structure, to being AMAZONS.>>

<< Rose knew their souls were the same, they still had the same good, noble hearts, and were TRUE to their desire to help her, support her. But they were too used to viewing the people they helped as being UNABLE to help themselves. Sharon and Alycia meant well, but were naturally inclined to TAKE OVER when they got involved in something. NOT out of "malice" but because both women, in their former lives had asserted CONTROL, which helped them reach the levels of success they found. They had a tendency to approach PEOPLE as if they were..."PROJECTS.">>

<< ROSE was NOT that person. She was not poor OR weak. EVERY bit as powerful as Malice, Spellbinder, or any other heavy hitters. If SHE gave in to her PSYCHO POWER, she would be a "omega level" threat. Rae KNEW that, and told the Birds of prey at the hospital as much. >>

<< But one of the most important and enduring things that Sharon, Alycia, and Zach (until RECENTLY) had done for Rose, was to help shield her from the scrutiny of greedy, lustful eyes, many of whom belonged to individuals in state sanctioned positions, these individuals, as Rae correctly stated, often danced with the devil in the fires of hell on earth, and used their state sanctioned power to cause damage , plunder, and to just revel in greed and corruption.>>

<< What were the lives of orphans, especially mutant orphans, to men would see them removed for being "useless eaters"; and a woman, who's beauty made her nothing more than an object to be possessed or dominated (if not worse)? Sharon, Alycia, and again, until lately, Zach, had helped her to avoid many of the pitfalls that came with operating inside these man made systems, since children can't simply be "rasied on the astral plane." And no one understood better than Rose, a survivor, a mutant, and an ORPHAN herself, what unique challenges and needs these children had. Sharon, Alycia, and Zach helped her to navigate the logistics and "red tape" (among other things) that got in the way of something that should be as simple, as TIMELESS of caring for the young, protecting the weak and helping those in need.>>

:: She took her gaze from Rose and placed it on Jacob. ::

:: Rae stood over the boy. So sweet and gentle. Not all kids were - some were assholes and she had seen her fair share of those. As she stood over the boy, for a moment she thought of herself and who she was as a little girl. Singing in the choir, making dandelion crowns and skipping rocks like she was Laura Ingalls Wilder herself. She had parents, but nothing made her that much different than this boy. The pain of being different, feeling abandoned or used for what you could do. Not fitting in. He was so young, but it was clear that he had learned so much. Rae Ann was sure that a bullet wouldn't be the thing to take down this boy. Not if she had anything to do with it. ::

:: She was a woman of considerable gifts. Rae Ann Reynolds was not a mutant, but she was a mystic - a woman born of incredible gifts, of a connection to the spirit world, the other side that was nearly unparalleled for a human. Raised as a preacher's daughter, she grew up in the church. She went to Sunday School, she listened to her father preach at revivals, watched as he charmed snakes and spoke in tongues. But even as a young girl, she knew he was a fraud. But she wasn't. She had experiences, knew things and did things that made her know that she had been chosen to do great things. Decades later and a trail of burned bridges behind her and she had done just that. Most didn't understand her gifts, or thought at the very least that she was just incredibly perceptive. But Rae could do things that other psychics simply could not. She was a conduit in every sense of the word - a psi sensitive possessed of great blessings, and as she looked at young Jacob, sleeping and attempting to recover from his wounds, thanks to the help of Rose's intensive soul energy defense, she it knew it was time to share her gifts. To do the work. ::

:: Standing over Jake's hospital bed, we see a split screen of Rose's brillaint light brown, almost hazel eyes and the boy's sleeping, almost angelic face. Rae closes her eyes to center herself and prepare to unleash her power. The sound of wind chimes could suddenly be heard as a slight wind seemed to blow around Rae's face. Her eyes still closed, she began to ignite a prayer. ::

"Heavenly Father, I call upon those who sit at your throne. Your agents of action. Your heralds of change. Archangel Raphael, I require your guidance."

:: Immediately she could sense Raphael by her side. The tips of his heavenly wings stroking her face as she looked upon the boy. Raphael was the archangel of healing. His name meant exactly that. Feeling his beautiful and spectral presence right beside her, she began to use her ability as a conduit and medium to channel his heavenly presence. ::

"Blessed Saint Raphael, Archangel, I beseech thee to help me in all my needs and trials of this life, as thou, through the power of God, didst restore sight and give guidance to young Tobit. I seek thine aid and intercession, that this young boy's soul be healed, his body protected from all ills, and that through divine grace..may he be made fit to dwell in the eternal Glory of God in Heaven."

:: Rae put her hands in front of her, instinctually guided by the Archangel she was channeling, the one who stood by her side and gave her strength. She may have not been the typical archetype for a good, christian woman. But it was her belief in her faith, her deep and personal relationship with her own God that gave her the ability that she had. Rae Ann believed that all pantheons were connected, that all spiritual deities and tenets were connected, they simply appeared to people however it was that immediately connected this spiritual energy to them. Some saw the Buddha, some saw Jesus and some saw the old gods. Rae saw God, and she made no apologies for it. To know Rae, was to know that God was in fact one of the greatest magick users of all. There was MAGICK in Christianity..mysticism..and Rae was somebody who had access to the ways of worship that had been long gone. As she cast out her hands, an emerald green ethereal energy began to swirl from her hands, weave itself in a pattern around the boy. The color was the signature of the healing energy of Raphael himself. ::

"Amen."

:: While Rose had put him back together, Rae knew that there was a spiritual component that would be lacking in the boy when he awoke. He had just seen that one of his only heroes was a sheep in wolf's clothing. She needed to give this boy the strength he would need in order to survive. Meeting Zach, she saw so many possibilities for Jake. She couldn't let his potential fall to the wayside. So in the room, calling upon one of the highest powers in her own faith, she HEALED the boy, not necessarily on a SOUL level, or a PHYSICAL level, but on a level that lied between. On the level that tied the two places together. The place that would allow him to get through this and come out from it stronger. ::

:: From within her pocket, she pulled out an ornate rosary with dark black beads and silver charms as she continued to pray, this time in Aramaic, the old language. She prayed over him, channeling the light, channeling the heavenly energy of the Archangel of Healing into this young boy, watching the angel's very love, his very essence bond to the boy, heal the cracks that Rose could not reach, even with her power. ::

:: After several moments, she opened her eyes, face to face with Raphael himself. He was so beautiful she could cry. She had experienced him for many years, when her ability to channel grew far beyond the mortal realm. She had worked with him many times over the years, but still, to this day, to lay eyes on such a heavenly creature, it was reverent. It gave Rae Ann pause. ::

"You will learn to thrive from this experience, my child. You will be bathed in the light of the Lord...and you will move FORWARD.."

:: This was not a spell. This was not her working magick. This was her igniting a prayer...a BLESSING upon the young boy before her, but those who could would perceive the similarities. She was no witch, but she was not without her own...CONSIDERABLE power. This boy WOULD have a full life. He WOULD find his happiness...Rae Ann would ensure that. ::

<< Rose stood, with Danny just a few steps behind her, and watch Rae perform this beautiful and essential blessing on Jake O'Brien. Rose had pulled his soul back together, Rae had just given him that spark, that wonderful BALM that would ensure when he awakened, he would enjoy the promise of life renewed.>>

<< And in this moment, Rose looked at Rae, and...>>

Oh, Rae....my beautiful friend...

<< her voice no longer haunting in its resonance, it was its normal tone, with that pleasant lilt>>

Thank you!

<< She hugs Rae>>

I'm so glad you're here.

BOTH of you.

I...I didn't realize how EXHAUSTED I was...how long I had gone WITHOUT acknowledging the pain...the CHANGE that that bus accident had caused in me. I thought that if I just...carried on...if I let my love and sense of duty to help these children propel me...that I'd be OKAY.

<< In this moment of hope and serenity, it seemed clear now, why she kept drawing those same 5 cards in her reading on her self, and she was RELIEVED!>>

Please...come back to my Sanctuary with me tonight, and stay with me. I could use your company.

<< She looks at Danny>>

And though you may not be fond of her, Danny, I'm calling Sharon Kelly to come join us as well. Katie has been so brave. She has always said she wants to be just like "WONDER WOMAN" (what more than one of the children calls Sharon), and tonight, she stood in the gap. She lead the children to the safety of the underground bunker. A visit from Sharon will do her good.

I also want to talk to her about a few things.

<< Rose and Danny had an idea of what one of those things might be ;) but for now, the pair had succeeded in helping Rose to settle, and find her balance, and Jake, was now guaranteed to survive, and eventually THRIVE.>>

<< Black Widow's depravity would not be the final chapter in his life, but if Rose had anything to say about it...it would be the CLOSING chapter for Black Widow herself!>>
