Gah! Okay, so it was one thing to go back in time and reboot and make Barbara Gordon be Batgirl again. But to make this POST-Killing Joke and have her suddenly be able to walk again? WTF?!!!

I mean, the whole "afraid of being shot again" thing IS sort of interesting, but who thought this whole thing was a good idea? The story itself isn't bad, but they're really going to have to convince me now.
 
they retconed the Killing Joke, now instead of the bullet obliterating her spine it only winged it and her muscle therapy too hold letting her walk again.

Allegedly it was to make the comics more inline with Batgirl in other media but most of the fans are unhappy about it cause it throws both Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown into limbo. (well Brown is only in limbo until Grant Morrison starts the next part of Batman Inc where she will star for a bit as Spoiler) Normally I'm happy with Gail Simone's work but this was definitely a miss for me which is sad cause her work is usually good.
 
Agreed, I think she usually does good work, but fff! Every fan I've talked to has said they should have started again with Cassandra Cain lol
 
I just think its kinda lame to take her role as Oracle away were she was more powerful and important then she ever was as Batgirl, take the title away from 2 characters that needed it to get any sort of recognition and give this weak PTSD thing. I may be fanboying but i'm still not happy
 
I don't think it's fanboying - Barbara OWNED as Oracle. She was secure in herself, kicked butt, and the chair was never a handicap to her. Doing this sort of feels like they didn't think she could be a good character because she's in a chair. I mean, it's one thing if they reset to a time BEFORE Killing Joke, but to just pretend like the Joker didn't really paralyze her...kind of cheapens it.
 
I HATE Batgirl....odd considering my username. Let me rephrase I hate the New 52 reboot of Batgirl!!

I love Barbara as Oracle! She is so amazing and strong and perfect as Oracle I'm so upset that they've taken all that away from her and are making her this young girl again. I loved wise, experienced, Oracle Barbara not this new one ugh. And I keep reading them cause I love Babs but its not getting any better :/

Exactly shes not Batgirl anymore.

Yes the Killing Joke is awful. Its a horrible misogynistic disaster. But what came out of it for Barbara, Oracle, is wonderful. Theyre not doing her justice to just erase the past, its not fixing their mistake. Babs kicking butt as Oracle took what they did to her and threw it back at them. Thats better then just rewriting history!
 
What I love about Babs is that being in a chair for her isn't a handicap.

lol we're doing a RPG here right now where I am playing a character based on Oracle and her attitude towards being paralyzed :)

Yeah exactly its not. Which is why I hate that theyre treating this as some kind of reward for Barbara when its not!

That is awesome!! Oracle ftw!! lol
