So i have read virtually no DC (unless you count alternate reality with communist superman, and the Authority)

I would like to give it a try, but it all seems so confusing to me. Does anyone have a few tips or pointers as to where i could start, without knowing too much of what has already happened??

I started with the New 52 since the whole point of it is to reboot the continuity so that new fans could read without having to know all the history. However now that I've read a whole bunch of older comics I have to say the New 52 pales in comparison.

Depends on what kind of characters you want to read this was the list I made myself when starting:

* Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985)
* Batman: The Killing Joke (1988)
* Batman: A Death in the Family (1989)
* The Death of Superman (1992)
* Superman: Funeral for a Friend (World Without a Superman) (1992)
* The Return of Superman (1992)
* Knightfall (1993-1994)
* Robin (1993-2004) #1-66
* The Batman Chronicle #5 - Oracle: Year One (1996)
* Superman: Kingdom Come (1996)
* Batman: Contagion (1996)
* Batman: Legacy (1996)
* Batman: Cataclysm (1997)
* Batman: Aftershock (1998)
* Batman: Road to No Man’s Land (1998)
* Superman: The Doomsday Wars (1998)
* Superman: The Dark Side (1998)
* Batman: No Man’s Land (1999)
* Batman: War Games (2004)
* Infinite Crisis (2005)
* Under the Hood (2005-2006)
* Final Crisis (2008)
* Batgirl (2009)
* Justice League: Cry for Justice (2009)
* Bruce Wayne: The Road Home (2010)
* Brightest Day (2010)

I definitely think Crisis on Infinite Earths is an important one to read albeit very long. Those first two Batman stories are important for continuity. And I really liked The Death of Superman, Funeral for a Friend tho was very long and boring lol. So yeah thats just a suggestion. Those are what I started with and I'm only halfway through that list lol.

I'm sure other people could suggest some other stuff to start with.

Nice list!
Well, im checking out the new 52 as well, and ill be checking out some of the older titles you recommended as well, thanks for the tip.

PS! More tips is still appreciated.

the internet makes it much easier to find a starting point that might interest you as well. for marvel i used uncannyxmen.net for DC, i usually just wiki a character im interested in & look for issue references. i also use comic vine as a good point of reference tool.

alot of DC characters I enjoy became a source of interest to me "post crisis" in 1987. ive been reading comics for over 25 years but in recent years...ive sometimes stopped b/c of ridiculous writing & cost. when i want to get back into the fray, i use the net to help me w/ that lol.

the big reboot makes sense in theory but I really dont think it worked out for characters like WW, who in the post George Perez/Karen Berger era, suffered from a growing "crisis" of character definition. the reboot has made it worse imo.

For DC, I would highly recommend picking up or getting at the library the trade paperback of the Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Batman:Fugitive storyline (I think actually it's separated into 2 TPBs). You can do individual issues of course (it starts with Batman: The 10 Cent Adventure) but it's easier when all the issues are together. It's phenomenal and though it's before the New 52, I think you'll see kind of who you like from there, because it ranged through most of the titles.

that's always a good way to get started! cant beat FREE!
If you want to get into the current Green Lantern start with Green Lantern Rebirth by Geoff Johns, and you can follow that to Green Lantern Corp until it hits the reboot (which didn't effect GL at all really) When Batman Inc season 2 launches all you need to follow that is the Grant Morrison run on Batman.

Aquaman and Wonder Woman have complete reboots so you can just jump on with their new 52 issue 1s. A lot of the best books of the relaunch have almost no continuity before them but if you want some great story recommends there are more then a few for each title
