There was more discussion, but they pretty much had it settled. Cass agreed to tell Haleigh when she was getting 'hungry', so to speak, and Haleigh promised to have a system set up in which they could safely manage her urges.
As disturbing as it may seem to some, Haleigh didn't have a problem with Cass's needs. Nor was she bothered by discussing and planning to meet those needs. It was just another thing to deal with, and she was well equipped to deal with things like that.
Haleigh excused herself to make those arrangements. Amelia Davenport, her North American Lieutenant, could easily handle the task of finding suitable targets, and in addition, she would be the best person to assign an operative to watch Cass's back in the event that Haleigh couldn't find the time.
While she was at it, she called to check on Audrey's handling of the clean-up, and she also got in touch with Dr. Banner to confirm that he got the samples. She received an email from Sebastian with the report she'd asked for regarding all of their current power suppression technology. She took a moment to glance over it. If only fulfilling Alexia's need was as simple as Cass's: finding someone for her to kill. She also spent a couple of hours going over the simulations that Nic had run, searching for something he might have missed in his frustration. Nothing jumped out at her, but it would take many hours of review to see it all and pick out patterns, and she would be better informed after Bruce analyzed their DNA and energy signatures.
She was happily interrupted by a text message.
Cameron: So..glad you're back...and I'll see you at the dinner tonight..
There's a dinner tonight? Am I the only one who feels like they need an itinerary for this weekend? She thought but didn't text back, as she read the rest of his message.
Cameron: but...i'd like to catch up...and since I hear you've been on some kind of one woman tour since returning...I think your next stop should be me...Roof of the Parthenon? After Dinner and things die down? If not...understand. Lemme know. Love You.
Haleigh stared at those last two words. Was that love-you like, 'yes, that's what normal people with our relationship depth say to each other on a regular basis', or was that like 'one or both of us is back from the dead, and I want you to break up your wedding because I LOVE YOU'?
That was the thing about text messages. They were so devoid of tone. Knowing Cameron, it could mean ANYTHING. Haleigh replied in the most neutral way possible, and basically just pretended the love-you didn't happen.
To Cameron>> Sounds great.
She checked the time. She should probably start getting ready. She wondered if anyone had told Zach..... He was friends with Blaze also, and had missed out on the fun last night. She reached for her ear, calling him.
"Hey, where are you?"
Zach: just wrapping some stuff up at the U.N. Why?
"There's a formal dinner for Blaze tonight, thought you might want to accompany me. But if you're tired up with work, I can go stag, it's no big deal."
Zach: uh, no, no. I can definitely be there. In fact, I'm all done here, see you in a few seconds.
And so they both hung up, and Haleigh went to see what other outfits John had brought her this morning. Zach appeared in a swirl and started to undress. She watched him as he did, and they smirked at each other for a second, then He reached for a tux as Haleigh flipped through.... She thought she'd seen a dress.... Yes. A royal purple silk dress that looked painted on when she got it all zipped up. It was strapless and short, and managed to emphasize her body in all the best ways.
Zach: Oh, purple? That's why he brought this vest/tie combo. Well that's perfect then.
He finished with that, and she put on earrings and then carefully sat down to put on her heels.
