The gruff, adamantium-clawed Marvel superhero Wolverine strikes out on his own in this X-Men spin-off starring series regular Hugh Jackman. The story gets under way as the boy who will become Wolverine makes a shocking discovery about his family bloodline, and gains a brother in the process. Flash forward to find the mutant siblings battling side by side through two world wars and Vietnam -- where they are sentenced to death for killing a commanding officer -- and Logan (Hugh Jackman) and his brother Victor Creed (aka Sabretooth, played by Liev Schreiber) have joined a top-secret government task force. When their targets begin to include innocent civilians, conscientious Logan escapes to the Canadian Rockies, where he builds a home with pretty schoolteacher Kayla Silverfox (Lynn Collins). Informed by his old commanding officer William Stryker (Danny Huston) that the members of his old team are being targeted for death, Logan is heartbroken when Victor finds and kills Kayla. Vowing revenge, Logan agrees to take part in a dangerous experiment that will fuse his bones with a powerful metal alloy called adamantium, which makes him virtually indestructible and gives him the strength needed to defeat his powerful brother. Subsequently betrayed by Stryker, Logan (now Wolverine) sets out to find his blood-lusting brother and stop the cycle of violence once and for all. Along the way, the temperamental hero is joined by fellow mutants John Wraith (Will.i.Am) and Remy LeBeau (aka Gambit) (Taylor Kitsch). But before Wolverine can seek vengeance against Striker and his brother, he'll have to do battle with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) a formidable mutant instilled with many powers.

I originally was going to wait for this film on DVD. But I gave in because Ryan Reynolds was in it and I really like him. Plus I've always liked the character Dead Pool. Obviously, this movie is a prequel to the three other X-Men films. What I liked about this film was the background and the introduction to characters we haven't seen like Gambit, The Blob, and Dead Pool. There was a hidden scene AFTER the movie and I will reveal the following for those who wish to know later on. Lot's of action, compelling emotion, and just questions we've all wanted answered. I never really read the comics so I can't comment how closely they followed the course of events. Here is what I thought was cool:
A.) The hidden scene at the end of the credits was Dead Pool reaching for his decapitated head after his fight with Wolverine and Victor Creed.
B.) Kayla Silverfox does not die by the hands of Victor Creed. It's meant to believe that which motivates Logan to turn to William Striker and prompts the Weapon X program. But she does die at the end of the film from being shot.
C.) Wolverine was a mutant as a child, something I didn't realize. I assumed it would hit at puberty. He also murders his own father in a fit of rage.
D.) A few characters die at the hands of Victor. John Wraith is one of them. And Chris Bradly is the other one.

I didn't have high expectations for this film but I really loved it. More so than the other X-Men films. Lot's of twists and turns and a few surprises.

So who has seen this film? What did you think of it? Do you feel it followed the comic closely?

I wasn't too excited for this movie either because frankly Wolverine isn't my favorite X-Men character. But I decided to go with a group of friends who wanted me to go and I was actually really surprised at how good it was. Deadpool was freakin' AWESOME. Like seriously, such a badass villian. I really liked the recast of Sabertooth. I thought the actor [who's name I can't remember] did a great job. And of course, Gambit was KICK ASS. I wish there was more Gambit in this film, but he was definitely awesome. Great casting for him as well.

My hope is that they continue in THIS direction if they make a sequal to this movie. I loved that they showed other less 'known' [obviously not to comic fans, but moreso X-Men movie fans] characters such as Emma Frost, Deadpool, Silverfox, and Gambit [even though he's popular, but he wasn't featured in the first three films].

So all in all, I was pleasently surprised. It was a good movie. :)

Victor Creed was played by Liev Schreiber who I felt did a brilliant job compared to the character in the first X-Men film who looked like a giant Yetti lol.

There were a few things I would have liked to have seen for some characters. Like with Deadpool, did he volunteer for that upgrade or what? I didn't seem Emma Frost, where was she? I thought it was cool they had Blob in there. But I thought Gambit's accent could have been worked on though, didn't sound exactly French to me like in the cartoon's.

But I definitely agree with you, Sam, I really liked this film and a sequel would be great. And I'm sure they will have one with the hidden scene at the end.

Emma Frost was the girl who's body turned into diamonds.

I didn't get a chance to see the hidden scene, but from what discribed, it definitely seems like they're aiming for a sequal. I just hope Gambit is in that one too. :) Him and Deadpool made the movie for me.

I say this with all my heart Ryan Reynolds needs to be the star of a Deadpool movie. He was the best thing about that movie

That was really Emma? I thought it was someone else like.. silverfox or something? If so I am already not excited about this movie.. because Emma could just KILL Wolverine and make it about her the rest of the movie.. and that would be so much more awesome.

I found this on CNN and found it interesting.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- He is the international superstar responsible for breathing life into the iconic comic book hero Wolverine. Her movies have earned more than $2 billion worldwide, including the entire "X-Men" franchise.

Hugh Jackman emerges as Wolverine in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which opened Friday.

Actor Hugh Jackman and film producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently sat down for a candid conversation about their new film, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

Specifically, the pair talked about the scene in which Jackman's character is transformed from a simple mutant with bony claws that periodically protrude from the back of his hands to an invincible mutant filled with an indestructible metal called adamantium.

This scene represents the ultimate birth of a comic legend as the character is transformed from Logan to Wolverine. Watch the scene in which Wolverine is unleashed »

Hugh Jackman: I knew this was the birth of the character; this is where we see him in full flight. It's called in the comic book "berserker rage." It's not really in the English language, but it may be now! But, this idea that this complete animal [has been] unleashed, which is obviously the entire story -- this battle between the animal and human is something we all relate to.

Lauren Shuler Donner: There were many things he had to do in the tank, you know. One of them was he had to be lowered, and then the needles had to come towards him.

Now, most of those were CGI, so he had to look in certain places where the needles were. But, he couldn't hear [director] Gavin [Hood]. So they ... tried all kinds of sounds, speakers, everything. ...

They finally devised this toe method where, if Gavin pulled on Hugh's big toe, it meant the things are coming, the second toe is this, the last toe is rise up, very sophisticated. (laughter)

Don't Miss
Review: 'Wolverine' doesn't cut it
Jackman: I had in my head that I've got to be in much better shape -- not better shape, different shape, kind of ridiculous shape because I wanted it to be uncomfortable. I wanted it to feel like I felt when I saw Robert De Niro in "Cape Fear," that -- whoa, this guy is dangerous, he's powerful, he's dangerous, and he can snap at any point.

Donner: There's an iconic drawing of Wolverine coming out of the tank in the comics with the things popping out of him and his hair all over him in a rage, and we wanted to be that image. That's the image we wanted for the fans.

Jackman: I was a little frightened when I watched it, like, "Is that me?" [My wife] Deb was like, "Hugh, this is ridiculous. I don't even know who that is."

At least they're finally "admitting" they're using wolverine as the centeral character.... to me, the first three movies were Wolverine (Guest starring the X-Men)....

Though I did see it.... For the first round of the summer blockbusters I thought it was good... definitely work watching, but I was overly impressed.
