So... X-Files Season Whatever, episode 01. My Struggle.

Indeed. It was a struggle to finish it; it was so tragically bad it was almost laughable. Even the parts that were supposed to seem nostalgic seemed very trite and worn out. I cant imagine watching another one.

Anyone else subject themselves to it?

I think the parts of the show that worked when it aired are seen as commonplace and rather mundane now. In trying to keep the formula from the past it hampered its ability to move forward thus feeling almost retro and whimsy despite the updated threat.

Of course dialogue like this doesnt help it seem modern either:

O'Malley
A government, driven not only by corporate greed, but by a darker objective, the takeover of America and then the world itself, by whatever means necessary, however violent, cruel or efficient. By severe drought, brought on by weather wars, conducted secretly using arial contaminants and high altitude electromagnetic waves, and a state of perpetual war, to create problem reaction solution scenarios to distract, enrage and enslave American citizens at home with tools like the Patriot Act and the National Defense Authorization Act, which abridge the constitution in the name of national security. The militarization of police forces in cities across the US, the building of prison camps by the Federal Emergency Management Agency with no stated purpose, the corporate takeover of food and agriculture, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, even the military in clandestine agendas to fatten, dull, sicken and control the populace already consumed by consumerism. A government that taps your phone, collects your data and monitors your whereabouts with impunity, a government preparing to use that data against you when it strikes and the final takeover begins.

Scully
The takeover of America?

Mulder
By a well-oiled and well-armed multinational group of elites that will cull, kill and subjugate.

Scully
Happening as we sit here.

O'Malley
It's happening all around us.

Scully
It's fear mongering, isolationist, clap trap, techno-paranoia so bogus and dangerous and stupid that it borders on treason. Saying these things would be incredibly irresponsible.

Yes, I read Vigilant Citizen too, but I read it for a laugh! Indeed Clarabelle, you should not be excited. Farewell X-Files, TV has passed you by.

I think going forward with my original X-Files rewatch may be the way to go instead of chasing the rabbit :)

I would suggest it, really. Plus it seems like they retcon alot of stuff too as if it never happened.
I have never seen an episode of X-Files.. Stop don't shoot! Lol
Whatever you do... don't start now!

I just wish there was an X-Files, Fringe and Twin Peaks massive crossover. Since all three are in the same verse that would be killer.

I watched the first half of the first episode (because football ran over, I only got half an ep on my tivo), and from that, it felt like they were compressing all the little small reveals of info about aliens that would have happened over a season into one episode. I also watch episode 2 which I enjoyed more. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I did love that they used the exact original opening credits.

Oh, that's right! Episode two was last night. That was like a standalone, MOTW wasnt it?

So I watched it. It was much better than the first one. The pacing was alot better. Plus Chief Tyrol and Deloris Herbig.
